The TL431 and TL432 are three-terminal adjustable shunt regulators with specified thermal stability over the applicable automotive and commercial temperature ranges. By using two external resistors, the output voltage can be set to any value between the reference voltage Vref (about 2.5 V) and 36 V. The typical output impedance of these devices is 0.2 Ω. The active output circuit has a very sharp turn-on characteristic, making it an ideal replacement for Zener diodes in many applications, such as on-board regulation, adjustable power supplies, and switching power supplies. The TL432 has the same functions and electrical specifications as the TL431, but the pinout of the DBV, DBZ, and PK packages is different. Both TL431 and TL432 devices are available in three grades, with initial tolerances at 25°C of 0.5%, 1%, and 2% for the B, A, and standard grades, respectively. In addition, the low output voltage temperature drift ensures good stability over the entire temperature range. The operating temperature range for TL43xxC devices is 0°C to 70°C, for TL43xxI devices is -40°C to 85°C, and for TL43xxQ devices is -40°C to 125°C.
