Product Description
Product Overview The SN65HVD233, SN65HVD234, and SN65HVD235 are designed for applications using the Controller Area Network (CAN) serial communication physical layer in compliance with the ISO 11898 standard. As CAN transceivers, each device provides transmit and receive functions between a differential CAN bus and a CAN controller, supporting signal rates up to 1 Mbps. These devices are specifically designed for operation in harsh environments, featuring cross-wire protection, overvoltage protection up to ±36 V, loss-of-ground protection, overtemperature (thermal shutdown) protection, and common-mode transient protection of ±100 V. They operate over a wide common-mode range of -7 V to 12 V. These transceivers serve as the interface between the primary CAN controller on a microprocessor and the differential CAN bus used in industrial, building automation, transportation, and automotive applications. Modes: The RS pin (Pin 8) of the SN65HVD233, SN65HVD234, and SN65HVD235 offers three operating modes: high-speed mode, slope-control mode, and low-power standby mode. Connecting Pin 8 directly to ground selects high-speed operation, enabling the driver output transistors to switch as fast as possible with no limitation on rise and fall slopes. By connecting a resistor between the RS pin and ground, the rise and fall slopes can be adjusted. The slope is proportional to the output current of the pin. With a resistor value of 10 kΩ, the device driver's slew rate is approximately 15 V/μs; with a resistor value of 100 kΩ, the slew rate is about 2.0 V/μs. For more details on slope control, refer to the Characteristics section.
Application Areas Industrial Automation, Control, Sensors, and Actuator Systems Motor and Robotics Control Building and Climate Control (HVAC) Backplane Communication and Control CAN Bus Standards, such as CANopen, DeviceNet, CAN Kingdom, ISO 11783, NMEA 2000, SAE J1939
